Where are you located?

Lifeline Wisdom Dental is located in West Footscray and serve patients from all adjoining areas.

I am scared to go to the dentist. What can I do?

We at Lifeline Wisdom Dental fully realize that visiting the dentist can be an overwhelming experience for many which is why we strive to make our patients as comfortable as possible. Our highest priority is to serve our customers in a way that they are comfortable and relaxed during the treatment. Discuss your anxieties and fears with your dentist and they will ensure that you are taken care of accordingly.

Will my teeth be whiter after a scale and clean?

The main purpose of a scale and clean is healthier gums. During a scale and clean, your dentist will remove the surface stains from your teeth such as those from smoking, tea or coffee. However the color of your teeth will not change. If you are looking for teeth whitening, contact our team at Lifeline Dental Wisdom today. We have many options for you.

What is the difference between in-office and take-home teeth whitening?

In-office teeth whitening is performed and supervised by the dentist with concentrated whitening products applied to your teeth. This usually takes 1-2 hours and you can see results immediately. Teeth sensitivity is common after teeth whitening and you will be sent home with toothpaste for sensitive teeth and advised not to drink staining or very hot and cold liquids for a few days such as wine, tea and coffee.

At-home teeth whitening consists of whitening gels with lower concentration of the bleaching agent which makes them safer to use at home. Your dentist will give you the kit along with the instructions. You can achieve the same results with an at-home whitening kit as an in-office whitening session but it will take time. You should be expected to see results in a few weeks.

Why is an x-ray necessary? Is it safe for me?

Using an x-ray is sometimes necessary to show various angles and perspectives of the mouth and gums allowing the dentist to highlight the specific area they need to identify and diagnose or treat. There may be many reasons why you need to have an x-ray including but not limited to age, tooth and gum development, maintaining oral health or prior to other forms of dental treatment. Dental x-rays do involve radiation, but the exposure levels are very low and they are considered completely safe for the patient including children and adults.

When is a tooth extraction necessary?

Sometimes a tooth can be damaged and decayed to a point where it is beyond repair. We try our best to salvage your tooth but if there is no sufficient part of the tooth left to support repairs, then it needs to be extracted.

What is a dental emergency?

If you have:

  • A broken or chipped tooth
  • Swollen and painful gums
  • Severe pain in your jaw
  • Severe toothache
  • Any kind of injury to the mouth or teeth
  • Post procedure complications

Then you could be in need of emergency intervention. Call our clinic from 9 AM-5 PM from Monday to Friday to get booked in for the nearest available appointment. We reserve spots for emergency appointments every day.

Do I really need to floss?

While brushing twice a day is essential for oral health, there are still some in-between areas of our teeth that a conventional toothbrush cannot reach. Floss is used to clean the plaque and food from areas. It also helps to keep our gums in good health. Discuss with our dentists to learn the best way to floss.

I got a filling and now it hurts, what should I do?

You may feel some sensitivity for a few days after a filling, especially in younger patients. If it does not settle in a few days, it could be an indication that you need a root canal or tooth extraction depending on the extent of the damage to your tooth.

Can a broken tooth be fixed?

Our number one priority at Lifeline Wisdom Dental is to make every effort to save your natural teeth and in many cases a broken tooth can be fixed. However, in some situations, a tooth cannot be fixed or saved because of extensive damage or decay or trauma. Please feel free to discuss all the options with our dentists so you can make an informed decision.

When should a child have their first visit to the dentist?

Your child’s first dental visit is recommended by 12 months of age or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting. The visit includes a full exam of the teeth, jaws, bite and gums.

Do you have payment plans?

There are no hidden costs and we also offer interest free payment plans and instalment pay options such as After Pay, Zip Pay and Open Pay.

Is a root canal treatment painful?

A local anesthesia will be injected to your treatment area. You will be awake during your procedure but you will not feel any pain.

If I play a contact sport, is a mouth guard necessary for me?

A properly fitted mouth guard should always be worn to protect your teeth during any contact sport or other types of activities where there is risk of injury or impact to the face. Without a mouth guard, significant damage may occur from such impacts causing lost or broken teeth or other facial and dental trauma. It is highly recommended that if you are planning on participating in any of these kinds of activities where there is a risk, you have a mouth guard custom fitted to the molds and contours of your mouth to ensure maximum protection and reduce the chance of injury.
